What Dreams Are Made Of!!

I'm sure all of us, at some time, have realised the power of music. Perhaps a song may play and it takes you back in time, stirring memories, some good and perhaps some not so good. Nonetheless, there are a great many of us who would like to harness that power and become a DJ!

With advances in technology, sophisticated DJ mixer equipment is now far more affordable, enabling a lot more of us to experiment with our musicality whether we are closet bedroom DJ's, professional musicians or club DJ's.

What's Different About DJ Mixer Equipment?

There are typically two fundamental advantages that DJ mixer equipment has over your stereo. The first is that it facilitates "cross-fading" which means that you can seemlessly bind two different music tracks together by lowering and increasing the respective volumes. It is also used in scratching, where you manual move a record on the turntable to generate your own unique sounds.

The second feature is the ability to cue a track of music without disturbing a track of music that is already playing.

There are also all sorts of other gadgets such as equalizers which can alter the tone of the music. The facility to record your own mixes is also essential. As a bare minimum, you need two channels, an adjustable equalizer (EQ), headphone jacks and a crossfader.

You should also consider size and portability before purchasing.

Which DJ Mixer Equipment Should I Buy?

This all depends upon the proposed usage and how much you're willing to spend. You can pick up DJ mixer equipment starting from several hundred dollars running into thousands of dollars. Naturally, if the equipment is to be used for professional purposes then it would be wise to invest in the best equipment possible. However, if you're buying for a child, say under the age of 10 years old, then I would suggest looking towards the bottom end of the price range.

Teenagers can be tricky to buy for as they, unfortunately, realize the value of their purchases. They will also be more likely to pick up on any distortion and shortcomings in the DJ mixer equipment. Even so, you want to be sure that the equipment is going to be used to its full potential and is not hidden away, gathering dust.

Portability and ease of set up will also be a critical factor if the equipment is to be used constantly in different places such as clubs, weddings, parties or gigs.
